  • "The sports facilities are superb - be it hockey, cricket or muddy rugby.  We play at the County Cricket Ground which is probably the best in the region".

School Buildings

Lessons and other activities take place in a number of school buildings, situated on the historic Cathedral Close.

The Chantry in Palace Gate is the main school building and the postal address of the School.  The Headmaster's study and administration offices are situated here, as is the dining hall, gym, library, Radford Room (used for parents' association meetings, etc.), playground and Year 4 classrooms.

The Chapman building is part of the Old Deanery building and houses the Art, Design and Technology Centre and the RE and History teaching room as well as resident staff accommodation.  In the courtyard of the Chapman building is the Coach House where French and Food Technology are taught.

The Evans building on Kalendarhay houses the rooms used by Years 5 and 6 as well as the Science Laboratory and other subject specific teaching rooms.

Hall House, 15 Cathedral Close, is the home of the Pre-Preparatory Department and also the School Uniform Shop.  It is situated at the Southernhay end of Cathedral Close.  The Headmaster has his private accommodation within Hall House.

Kalendar Hall is the home of our Music and Drama departments and fronts onto South Street.  Most school drama productions are performed in the main hall of this building.  The majority of individual instrumental lessons take place here.  The school is delighted to learn that the city’s Planning Committee have approved a new building to replace Kalendar Hall which will comprise of a new theatre and practice rooms.

It is also available for hire at certain times to parents and outside organisations.  Please contact Jackie Lapraik, school office  for more information and details of availability and charges.

Eyre House in Palace Gate is where the Boarding Accommodation is located, linked to the Chantry by a footbridge; it also accommodates the Year 3 Centre.

The Spencer Suite is on South Street, just down Bear Lane, located above Trugs Florists.  It comprises a large classroom with toilets for boys and girls, together with an office space and kitchenette for staff.  It is used as a Maths teaching room and Year 7 form room.
