Learning Support
Learning support is offered at the Cathedral School in a number of ways.
-
A special feature of our school is the small class sizes. Small teaching groups ensure that each child can receive greater individual attention.
In the Nursery we have a pupil : qualified adult ratio of not more than 6:1
In Years Reception - Year 2 we have a pupil : teacher ratio of not more than 19 : 1, with additional classroom assistant support.
In Years 3-8 we currently have an average pupil : teacher ratio of not more than 19: 1, with a good number of subjects divided into smaller sets.
- Additional classroom support from Teaching Assistants is provided in all Pre-prep classes, to make teaching groups even smaller and more effective.
- Where a Specific Learning Difficulty (e.g. Dyslexia, Dyspraxia) is diagnosed, pupils may receive either individual or small group lessons from one of our specialist teachers, supported by an individual education plan tailored to each child's particular needs. There is an additional fee payable for this. Close liaison with parents, form teachers and subject teachers is an essential part of this process.
“When I was having a little trouble in English and Maths I had extra half hour lessons and that made me much more confident”.
“One thing that I like most is my teacher, Mrs Hodges, because I come from a different country and she helps me to be better at English. She helps me with grammar as well”.
“Lots of teachers have helped me with my dyslexia and helped me get into my next school”.
