Our vibrant and energetic Pre-Prep department is situated in Hall House, in the heart of the City with a fabulous “secret” garden and a view of the Cathedral.
Pupils may enter our Nursery Class in the term of their third birthday. At this stage the majority of pupils will attend on a part-time basis although full-time attendance is not uncommon.
As the children progress through the Reception class, Year 1 and Year 2 there is a very significant focus on establishing very firm foundations in literacy and numeracy. Our children also benefit from practical science and geography, activities and discussion in religious studies and history, a wide range of practical and creative activities, Physical Education lessons in the School Gymnasium and, from the Reception Class onwards, weekly swimming lessons. The School’s Assistant Director of Music teaches music to our Pre-Prep children and events are held to showcase the pupils’ developing talents! Daily assemblies in Hall House are led by the Pre-Prep teachers, the Headmaster, School Chaplain and the Priest to the School.
In all education there is no substitute for good teaching and a high proportion of teacher-pupil contact time but for children of this age it is more important than ever. The pupil-teacher ratio at the Cathedral School means that our Pre-Prep children are taught in small groups with a good proportion of individual, one-to-one contact being built in to the day.
To enhance and extend the children’s learning and enjoyment of topics, a variety of field trips and activities are organised to take place each term.
Breakfast Club and After-School-Care and School Clubs are all popular options for happy children and busy parents!
Places in our Pre-Prep are often secured well in advance and it is not uncommon for there to be a waiting list for entry. If you would like to pursue the possibility of a place for your child in our Pre-Prep, please make contact with the School Registrar, Lucy Lewis, who will be very pleased to help you with your enquiry.
