Year 5 (Age 9+)

In Year 5 the children have a greater proportion of lessons taught by subject specialists but will still see their form teachers, who will oversee their pastoral care, for a significant portion of the curriculum.

Design Technology and Food Technology are introduced in Year 5 as an important practical dimension of the broad curriculum we aim to offer.

Many children join one of the school musical ensembles during this year, giving them the experience of playing in School concerts.

Boys and girls continue to ave the opportunity to represent the School in the various team sports in a full programme of Under 11 fixtures against other schools.

Increased responsibility and independence is encouraged and supported.

"What I like the most is the sport.  It is very good and you can play even if you are not in the first team.  The teachers really encourage you to keep going" Year 5 pupil

"I remember my taster day because it was enjoyable and so much fun.  We had lots of subjects and there were so many nice teachers and pupils"  Year 5 pupil

"We have lots of fun doing games and science is very exciting"  Year 5 pupil

"What I like the most is outdoor pursuits, especially when we built a fire in the woods" Year 5 pupil

"I like ECS because it is a kind and loving school and helps you if you are ever sad.  It is a musical school, academic and sporty and that's why I like it!"  Year 5 pupil
